I was thinking the same thing! He actually didn’t come up with those - his were Yan tan tethera :) The picture is hexadecimal if you are interested like I was!
My grandad used to count sheep like that. "Yan, tan, tethere, methera… etc until he got to 20, then put a stone in his pocket and start counting again
I never understood this because how many sheep would run past when I’m looking for a stone on the ground to pick up to mark 20?
