Travel to the US by Canadian residents has continued to drop significantly for the seventh month in a row, as new data confirms that Donald Trump’s threats have helped upend the summer tourism season.
Statistics Canada said on Monday that the number of Canadian residents who made a return trip to the US by car dropped 36.9% in July 2025, compared with the same month in 2024.
There were declines in air travel as well, where Canadian residents returning from the US by commercial airlines dropped by 25.8% in July compared with the previous year.
To the surprise of nobody.
Good.
Elbows up! Thank you Canada. At least one country in this world has principles and courage.
1 quarter of the amount of travel? Heads would roll normally if it was 5%.
Tank us, Canada. We really need to hurt before Conservatives can be held accountable.
I’m from Missouri, a state under solid Republican control for 40 years. Do not underestimate a conservative’s ability to accept life getting measurably worse so long as the TV keeps telling them what they want to hear
I had to travel to the US for work. I hated being there.
When people ask why the Canadian travel numbers aren’t zero, this is a big part of why. Business systems and markets take time to shift gracefully. Over time the friction in the business operations will guide more and more other opportunities and the quantity of border crossings from Canada to the US will continue to dwindle.
Elbows Up Canada.
I’m going to be asked to do the same - a few short stints - and I’ve been seriously risking taking a stand and saying no.
My work asked me if I would travel to Las Vegas and I flat out told them no, and told them why.
I wish I could have said no.
As an American, same.
