vscodium is pretty toothless compared to the first-party vscode builds. i forget the exact details, i think i was having issues with the dev container plugins not working at all.

i’ve been using zed.dev with all of the AI features turned off and its been nice. it’s probably a matter of time before they enshittify too, but for now i’m enjoying it.

imo this and the enshittification of games are symptoms of the same root cause. games are too big and expensive now. one auteur on a 1000 person team can’t have the same level of impact as one auteur on a 10 person team. they definitely have fewer opportunities to develop their reputation/skill/style on big teams

yes, i think flappy bird had a really elegant onboarding/tutorial:

1. main menu screen, tap to start
2. the tap flaps the bird
3. you fall to the ground, learning that you need to repeatedly tap to fly
4. before any obstacles appear, you get some time to calibrate your rhythm
5. obstacles start appearing and the game starts
