“Never forget” is great and all but from a German perspective it seems to not be enough. It is much more important to make sure the same or very similar things do not happen again, not by China and not by any other nation. Otherwise you end up like we did here in Germany where decades of “never forget” lead to very similar sentiments being expressed by a new major party but since things are slightly different (e.g. the “never forget” was always phrased to be about Jews, this is more about foreigners in general) people seem to allow themselves to ignore them.

I mean they are likely considering the offer. Considering it a bad joke maybe, or an insult, or most likely both.

Train them to do what?

GPL is just as bad as proprietary licenses in the sense that GPL makes the user worry about the licensing of some library they just want to use. MIT, BSD,… give the code user the freedom to avoid worrying about licensing bullshit. GPL meanwhile doesn’t really solve any of the problems you claim it solves because all it does is duplicate effort and the non-GPL duplicate is used in a lot of places where a single copy of the code could be used if the GPL-using author hadn’t stubbornly insisted on a disproven theory of how GPL will save us.

If you licensed your project incorrectly

If you think other people disagreeing with you on how to license their own work is “incorrect” maybe you are the one not really in favor of freedom.

I really don’t understand why people think they need to use outdated technology and inconvenient transfer methods to be undisturbed instead of just disabling programs that generate or display notifications (e.g. on Linux the notification daemon).

Do people really have so little self-control that they can’t just not use a network connection if it exists?

Don’t anthropomorphize companies. They don’t have principles. Companies are essentially nothing but incentive structures designed to maximize profits. You wouldn’t expect an algorithm or a machine to have principles so why would you expect that of a company?

Realistically most people will still not run devices 24/7 at home. Data centers will always have a place for that kind of service, even if they host a lot of small, independently owned devices by the very same people whose home connections we are talking about.

I would say most people do not need a home connection that is in the same order of magnitude as the average data center server connection in use at the same time. Mostly because by definition there won’t be many servers to transfer data from and to at that speed and the average person doesn’t run too many connections in parallel.

I am so sick and tired of these control problem people not understanding that a) we do not have AI that is anywhere near as advanced as they worry about and b) we already have human organizations called corporations who have been acting exactly like the AI they worry about for decades.
