  • Ads are actually pretty incredible. If no one knows your brand, all it takes is money to tell em. It’s like a short cut compared to having a good product and word of mouth.

Its essentially like a cold call, but you know the audience is at least generally interested in your topic because of targeting. All that data that is being taken and sold from you, is being sold to avertizers.

Pay Google for getting on search on Google and youtube.

Pay meta to get ads on Insta and Facebook.

If you spend $500 to sell a $3000 product, it’s a no brainer. Ita basically printing money when it works. So yeah, companies are paying when the results match. But also when they are testing the waters to see if its worth it to them.

  • so much fluff in their findings. makes me think, they didnt research shit. this is gonna be terribly implemented.

their attempt wont be the end of the free web. but people will leave because they dont want their data breached by yet another bad actor. its just making the web more dangerous instead of safer.

no one has the tech and security to handle this. its waaaay too early. the breaches are going to substantial and continuous.

    good luck Australia. stay safe.

  • Parents will not be able to give their consent to allow under-16s to use these platforms.

insane. the premise of this thing is parents arent being responsible enough with their children so the government is taking action.(which is also bs because we all know its really just about surveillance)

but then the adults who have raised critically thinking kids cant even give the kid consent.

then this article is about 5 things you as a parent can do to help ease the transition off social media. but if the parents were the type of people to follow these instructions, we wouldnt ‘need’ the ban in the first place.

its like some kind of meta comedy.

there is a verge article thats also saying the kids are too woke and are spreading pro Palestine messaging on tiktok and thats partly why it was banned.

so maybe on some level, this is really about protecting the parents from the woke ideology of children.

that being said, we need more 3rd spaces that are free to access and to hang in. where are these kids gonna go to replace their time on the cheap?

looking forward to the dramatic upswing in graffiti and property damage and petty theft.

  • i dont think were incapable. but to be fair i havent put that much thought into it. but i think there is a way we can at least checkmate them into being good.

for instance. lets say there is some FOSS that is better than any other paid/sub software like spotify. how would it work? i do not know. but lets just say, its possible.

people will use it, and spotify will dry up unless they change their model. they could try to buy up the foss, but we can just say no.

maybe a system where the community buy land through taxes. slowly putting it back in the hands of the people/local council. the rich are squeezing us out, but we can squeeze back.

there could be a marketing campaign similar to ‘diamonds are a girls best friend’ but more inline with ‘community money is worth more than gold’ so that we just stop selling to the rich. ingrain it in the people.

have people learn that billionaires are actually mentally ill and we should feel sorry for them and offer them therapeutic support to help them with their addiction. make them feel small like they are.

sometimes people go out to clean up the forest, or comb the beaches for trash and plastic as a way to give back to the community and help the world. similarly we could be using that same kind of effort healing the world from capitalism.

so not really incapable. but there needs to be a focused effort in specific directions.

i feel what is holding us back mostly is infighting(which is both an ancient practice of humanity as well as a consistent marketing campaign by the wealthy). once we can get past that, the world is our oyster.
