  • Can we discuss the facts and evidance for arguments not hurl personal insults its such activity us unbecoming of a good faith rational actor.

So as previously stated or can be verified by googling: every single state that currently has photo id requirements for voting either issues a specific voter id for free or waives the fees on existing id if the stated purpose is for voting. Any id requirements or requirements in general for voting are by federal law activities that must have a free option this protection already exists.

The prerequisite id to obtain the free id is the very same id as the id required for voter registration. Most notably birth certificates the form of id most commonly claimed via people in this thread to be hardest to obtain/produce for these alleged disenfranchised groups by people in this thread.

I’m not muddying water I’m simply drawing attention to the hypocrscy of your argument. To resolve your hypocracy you must either argue in favour of abolising all id requirements for voter registration or recind your argument against id requirements for voting. I understand the desire to have ones cake and eat it too but unfortunately that’s not how things work.

  • Australia has no national id (except maybe passport but US has that as well). To register to vote you need to provide id. U dont show I’d at the polling booth but u sure as shit need to get ur name ticked off the big book of names for registered voters.

All forms of id in Australia cost money (except ur original birth certificate). If ur name has changed for any reason u need to go get a new id pay money for that pay for the name change update existing records with the proof of name change etc etc etc. I don’t sew how the US is any different?

Also in in Australian if u don’t vote they fine you. If you don’t register to vote and provide id in doing this u need id at the polling booth to register to vote and thus vote otherwise they fine you.

Australia has solved the problem by simply making voting a duty instead of a right. If u can’t get an id in Australia (can’t afford it or provide paperwork etc etc) you cannot fulfill ur legal duty to vote and get fined. Instead of lower the cost to get id and vote in the US (every single state with voter id laws already issues free voter id or waives fees on existing id if for purposes of voting) why not just raise the floor for not doing it and punish anyone who doesn’t do it.

  • I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:

Signal has so many red flags. You are required to have a phone number which is essentially ur real identity. They now have payments linked to real identities so much better. They used to federate with 3rd party servers but they killed that and all but wiped it from the internet. They try to shut down 3rd party clients. They don’t provide reproducible builds so we can’t trust the source. They received their initial funding from In-Q-Tel the CIA venture capital firm.

Every time someone tries to raise any of these issues they are immediately shut down and told that its all for a good reason and that we should trust it.

At minimum they have a full social graph of real identities with time-stamped message events. Sealed sender doesn’t negate this as signal knows ur ip address when u give them a message. They also know the destination of that message as that isn’t sealed. This is sufficient information to link sender and recipient and timestamp. That’s assuming the unreproducible builds don’t have backdoors.

It’s all got a slightly fishy smell to it.

Tldr: If u want actual secure messaging u should consider SimpleX
