Fair point. Especially at the current HW prices, you can starve pretty quickly.
Maybe I should have paraphrased “Whitey’s on the moon” instead. “Data centres on the moon”?

Not so much as “no AI slop” but “here’s something built by someone you clearly despise due to their background outdoing you without requiring a right-wing techbro circle of investers”. Simply put: defiance in the face of a woefully corrupted industy. Or just pure old school “fuck you” vibes. Take your pick.
Bloody hell, I love this ✊

I’ve watched a computer do stuff for me, I’m gonna put “dev” at the end of my username too.

Same, and the project seems very “AI”-friendly on other fronts (assistant feature, agentic search). I’m not touching that.

Claude ranks second under “contributors”.

This seems very much like a “How do you do, fellow humans” moment, yes.
On the surface, this sounded like a nice project to connect people in a real world network and exchange tools or services. Pity that the entire readme is a wall of generated word salad, apparently aimed at other bots rather than flesh and blood developers.
I’d be interested in a network like the one outlined here, developed and maintained by actual people, just not whatever this is…
I’m anti-AI due to distrust in capitalism and our pseudo-democratic plutocracies, the profit motive to replace the human workforce, the reckless criminal-incompetence of its implementation, and apparent stupidity of the average hairless primate in understanding that you can never trust a correlation engine… but it’s just a tool
Doesn’t that whole preamble prove that “AI” isn’t in fact just a tool? Or rather, that it’s a tool designed for all the wrong things? There’s a well known Audre Lorde quote that springs to mind.

Yeah, because flooding the web with inane slop was bad. That’s not something you wanna be part of enabling.
I was talking about Lemmy communities, but yeah.
There are plenty of Linux communities already 🤷

Mozilla exists because one company tried to own the front door to the web, and an open community made sure it never could. The same play is running again, one layer up.
Thanks for democratising the tools to ruin the web completely for users— oh wait! 💩🦖
I for one would really appreciate just one single FLOSS community that flat out banned any and all “AI” contributed code instead of following the approach of others. Somebody have the spine to stand out, plz.
I’m not a developer, but I wanna be able to keep up with open source news without having to navigate a slippery slop(e) into clanker dominated territory.
Oh, I don’t think it’s homogenous at all, on the contrary. All the more reason to call out elements who believe such a diversity should be crunched into a monoculture. That’s what the extreme right will always attempt to do, so the “live and let live” approach doesn’t really work.
I must be tired, i didn’t even notice the “AI” tells 🤦
That’s a fair addition to the debate about “AI” in distros. IMO this is a minor thing in relation to Omarchy, though: first and foremost that project shows that there are developers and sponsors with deeply worrying politics that also need to be addressed in the community.
Now, is it the first time those far right troglodytes also embrace some particularly idiotic technology to further their cause? Nope (cough, cryptocurrency, cough), and with Thiel and Musk digging themselves ever deeper into a fascist ditch it probably won’t be the last.
But posts like this, and Drew Devault’s “Weird little guys” list, give some small overview of the problems in the open source community. So thanks for that.

Did a quick lookup, it’s just coincidence this year. But funny.
Talk Like a Pirate Day is always on 19 September; Software Freedom Day has been on the third Saturday of September for a good 20 years.
Why would you assume that “creators” only means people on video platforms 🤷
