I only use terminal text editors anymore when I need to edit config files à la
sudo nano. I just don’t trust visual text editors to do that stuff, I’ve been burned too many times in the past. Files “saving” but not actually saving. Files actually corrupting or changing ownership on save. Etc. Good old nano, doesn’t fuck with the critical system files any more than I already am.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What does "upgrade you from tagged to blocked" means?English
1·4 days agoI dunno, it takes like 10 taps and I’ve tagged 30 people ever. I do it maybe twice a week and it’s not like it requires much upkeep. Maybe I made it sound like a frequent activity?

The centre is like the only part of the code you don’t actually need lol. It’s a vestigial part

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What does "upgrade you from tagged to blocked" means?English
3·4 days agoPersonally, I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. If they’re rude, I give them an orange or red coloured tag. Everyone has bad days, after all. But if I see they already have a red coloured tag, I just block them instead. It goes the other way too though, kindness puts you closer towards green.
I think many people have a system like this. It’s a small community, often it’s the same repeat troublemakers being caustic. I can’t speak to how others use the tags, though.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What YouTubers have you watched for a long time and still find worth returning to?English
2·4 days agoThese are the creators whom I still watch most of their videos; otherwise, I mostly don’t actually really use YouTube much anymore. I pay premium for my extended family to all use it without ads lol
No, I’m not going to try and teach my mum how to use Vanced or whatever is popular now. I used to ask for a bit of cash from each of them, but you know how that tends to go.

2·4 days agoThat’s interesting, I have never had anxiety about my phone battery. I have moderate annoyance if completely runs out and shuts off. Usually I try to keep it above 3% lol. I use the number like, “ok I have 40% so that’s like 6 hours”; but if people stress out about it, I could see the number being triggering.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What Youtubers did you drop, And what caused you to do so?English
4·5 days agoI feel like his videos are kind of repeating / smaller now? Like really the big explanations of Mario Maker are kind of… done?
For example, I originally subscribed after seeing his rankings of all enemies from best to worst using some strange personal measurement which was entertaining. But his latest 3 videos, at time of this comment, are just revisiting older videos. I like seeing new stuff. not alterations of old stuff.
Honestly, In My Opinion, 480p is still completely acceptable for anime and cartoons. Most of that definition is used on the exact same colour blocks so HD doesn’t make s humongous difference. Still nice to have of course, but I don’t hesitate to go 480p if internet is choppy

16·5 days agoI was so gutted when TB got diagnosed. I’m still subscribed in memorium; never found any other reviewer nearly as thorough. Every time I play a new game, I check the options menu immediately. I think of him and wonder what he would say about this game.

That’s a really extreme take of that term. Normally, processed food means like, sugar cereal and biscuits; not frozen spinach pucks and tofu. Just because it’s a loose fuzzy term instead of a formal scientific definition doesn’t make it useless
