I think these are fair criticisms of Lem in general. His writing has always been much more about his ideas than about the story. I kind of like the atmosphere and character that his particular style creates though, it is distinctly his and, for me, places his worlds in a kind of eastern european, retrofuturistic space in my mind. But this is obviously coming from a westerner that has a somewhat exoticised view of eastern european culture.

43·6 months agoClickbait title. This is in the context of competitive coding, which is a very specific and constrained programming exercise with a time limit. Which is not at all comparable to real world software development.
It’s the Liverpool accent.
I taught at an English school in Osaka for a couple of years in my 20s and ended up getting told that in Japanese I sometimes sounded like a little kid because I taught a bunch of kids classes and picked up some language from them. I’m a 6’4 Australian man with a very deep voice.
