To be fair I think the idea of Mewtwo as cute is something largely done by the community. The anime and movies seem to portray them way more like a classical villain or monster. Not a cute kitty with psychic powers, in fact I don’t think Mewtwo is acknowledged as cute in any official capacity. Mew is portrayed that way, but not Mewtwo.

It makes sense that it’s a trauma response.

I mean since Mew is definitely a cat it makes sense Mewtwo would have those cat qualities.

Appearing to be dark type doesn’t equate to actually being dark type. It often does but it doesn’t always.
