Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your opinion on the recent decompilations of games and for-profit software? What do you feel about the use of AI in these projects?
15·2 days agoRecompilations are excellent.
The slop-based recompilations are worse than useless because:
-
They discourage humans from making recompilations based on the hard work of understanding the target software, since “There is already a recompilation.”
-
Slop recompilations “authors” typically don’t understand the target software well enough to implement the typical 10% of functionality the LLM fails to furnish.
-
The LLM generates such unreadable code that not even god could debug it. So it might as well be a binary itself.

News@lemmy.world•US man shoots off-duty ICE agent who allegedly attacked him and daughter
74·2 days agoThe Fresno police department said that the ICE official was receiving medical care after being shot in the midsection. The official, identified as David Gonzalez, is facing felony charges for assaulting the father-daughter duo
“Gonzales” is a hell of a last name for a hired ethnic cleanser in California.
He wants a ballroom the size of a Sam’s Club because he thinks he can hold dinners in it and charge each guest a million dollars.

Technology@lemmy.world•Reddit is killing RSS feeds and ending public API access because of AI botsEnglish
2·12 days agoIt could also be to make things difficult for redlib, which uses the reddit API.
The moon takes about half a degree of the sky’s arc. (So does the sun. That’s why total eclipses are possible.)
Since the horizons are 180 degrees apart, that means you could fit 360 moons in arc overhead from horizon to horizon.
Which looks impossible and demonstrates the optical illusion at play.

Technology@lemmy.world•Reddit is killing RSS feeds and ending public API access because of AI botsEnglish
17·12 days agoEnding the public API also prevents reddit users from deleting their post history without manually removing each post.
If you want to scrub your post history and prevent reddit from profiting from your input, use Power Delete Suite while you still can.

It is unlikely that reddit allows users to delete their content from the backend but this at least keeps your posts out of search results, which is a large part of their value.

3·13 days agoI had to take a “business class” as a requirement for a programming degree. The final project was to present a business plan. It was a group project and one group had a member who could not read their part of the presentation. That is to say they were illiterate, not that they were experiencing stage fright. I presume they got a passing grade, too, since the instructor offered no criticism.
