Signal is a publicly available app that provides encrypted communications, but it can be hacked. It is not approved for carrying classified information. On March 14, one day before the strikes, the Defense Department cautioned personnel about the vulnerability of Signal, specifically that Russia was attempting to hack the app, according to a U.S. official who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity.

One known vulnerability is that a malicious actor, with access to a person’s phone, can link his or her device to the user’s Signal and essentially monitor messages remotely in real time.

This reads to me like Signal has weaknesses. Also, just so everyone is aware:

Signal itself is not vulnerable. This article needs to correct itself. Signal is only vulnerable if the DEVICE THAT USES IT is compromised. Using devices that can be compromised is the issue here. Do not use that device to discuss anything confidential if you are in the government.

Honestly, fuck security. I want every app on my phone to phone home to other malicious app stores with all my personal data. I want them to install backdoor VPNs that tunnel all my data to a man in the middle. I want them to allow me to jailbreak my phone so I can install permanent rootkits, that way adversaries can reload their botnets even after I factory reset my phone.

On the real, i appreciate Apple for what they’ve done so far. If this happens, ill have to move back to GrapheneOS. Which is fine, but its just so much more time that I have to spend on making the phone work versus working on the phone.

We should force the entire EU to mandate GrapheneOS on all phones. Well see how much they enjoy the experience.

The journalist just has to show the safety number of the person who sent it, and hegseth has to verify it with his device. They’re obviously already in each others contacts, or at least are aware of each other’s presence in the group chat. Its pretty hard to ignore some random journalist entering the chat since it alerts the entire group.

What makes signal great is, yes, privacy, but also the authentication of your contacts. You know you can’t possibly be talking to someone else’s device if you have verified their safety number.

Thats why you would have to remove/hide anything unique about you

Im sure the only way you could get away with it is if you:

• Do it at night so that nobody innocent is there
• Do not take any cell phone or anything electronic tbh
• Wear clothing that covers your hair, skin, and anything distinctive on your body
• have three sets of clothing available. The before set, the operation set, and the getaway set.
• Wear shoes/clothes that are very common and not unique, and bought at a thrift store with cash
• use items that are common and not purchased with any credit/debit/tap cards, and only use items purchased some time ago and not recently
• put rocks in your shoes to change up your walking/running gait
• avoid looking at any cameras dead on
• be quick to reduce exposure time
• plan multiple entrance and escape paths
• dont drive anywhere near that location leading up to the night
• dont have anyone drop you off
• avoid letting cameras see you on your way there
• dont tell anyone about it, not even anonymously on the internet
• dont leave anything behind (especially anything from your own body)
• dispose of / destroy everything you brought with you in a location that isn’t near anywhere you normally go
• dont use any kind of maps software to lookup the location, unless its free, open source, and can be viewed offline
• do not go straight there from your residence. Do not go straight home afterwards either. Visit places that has foot traffic, a roof, and no cameras so that satellite imagery can’t pick you up

But maybe even that isn’t enough
