EDIT: No idea where you are located, but here’s an Aus store with some standoff screws. Hope that helps

Over the years, I don’t think there’s many DE’s or WM’s that I haven’t tried to live with on a daily driver, such as KDE, Gnome, Cinnamon, Qtile, XMonad, I3, AwesomeWM, etc etc. What I found over the years was how much I appreciated a clean, simplistic UI for an operating system.
After spending multiple years on ‘window manager only’ setups (got fed up with updating configs on major updates, and got fed up with the amount of config I had to do), I returned back to KDE mainly for the intense amount of OOTB customisation. However, what I realised after a while was that I was just setting up KDE to look and behave like Gnome.
So 2 years after last using KDE, I’m now just using Gnome all the time. I like the workflow, on laptop personally I think the gesture navigation is better than any other DE, and I love the simplistic design. Plus extensions get me what isn’t included OOTB.
Downside to Gnome is when major updates occur and extensions break as a result, other than that I can’t think of much bad about Gnome

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do people easily find out that I'm an easy to pick up on?
8·1 month agoIn my early 20’s (like 21-22) I worked in a work environment that is notoriously big for everyone giving each other shit at work (trades and labouring).
One thing I picked up on very fast was that you had to set those limits on how much crap you can take as a joke. It also made it really easy to know when an actual fight was about to break out because both parties would step over those lines immediately haha.
Anyway, I’ve done this at every job since and personally I’ve never had an issue with workplace bullying or anything. I swear the workplace is just the schoolyard for adults lol

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What skill did you learn that was not worth the effort?
13·1 month agoDepends on the cert and the environment you are already in.
For example, I’m an IT Consultant, we kind of rely on ‘professional certs’ to get work at client projects, especially if a project is covering specific niches and we have consultants that have certifications within those niches.
Also, many of the more mainline certs can definitely be worth getting (especially in the early career stages), as a quick example some of the CompTIA certs like Networking+ (a colleague got his job with us solely with that cert btw)
We just need to ask the French for tips and advice

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is Bluesky still worth it in 2026 or is it just as unhinged as Elon Musk's hate monger MAGA terrorist cesspool?
13·2 months agoLast time I tried Bluesky was the start of this year, with a week had like 20 bot accounts following me, maybe 1 real person
Did you just fantasize about a veteran being into you as an 11yr old, now you have it stuck in your head that they were a pedo because of… Why exactly?
Am I reading this wrong?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do YOU think men commit more crime than women?
4·2 months agoYes of course, but the crime was still committed and she had full capability of committing the crime regardless of how it ended up for her. The question wasn’t “why are males more successful at committing a crime”, although this is where my mind went as well.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do YOU think men commit more crime than women?
4·2 months agoThe cultural reason was what I was thinking too.
At first, physical capability popped into my mind as well, however can a woman not steal a loaf of bread? Or grab a knife and stab someone, or grab a gun and pull the trigger?
Economically able to could also lead into the gender imbalance in executive positions.
However I would like to hear the person I replied to’s reasoning instead of us guessing or putting answers in their mouth so to speak, as ‘more capable of doing so’ doesn’t really lend much to the conversation.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do the people who say "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" ever consider Heroin?
7·2 months agoI know one person that managed to kick heroin about 10 years ago now. They are one of the most head strong people I know now, with an enormous amount of drive to continuously improve their own life (they have since started a family, got a career, and just purchased a home recently).
In their case, I would definitely say ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’ holds true

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Someone said I post an average of 6 posts a day. Where did they get that type of information? Not upset curious cause it's another way I can compliment others with facts about them.
11·2 months agoThe math at 1103 posts (that’s what is showing for me when looking at their profile right now) ÷ 602 days is only 1.83 posts per day.
However, eyeballing their account it does seem they average 6 posts a day if they are posting, with some days dragging that average up - for example they have a day with 15 posts
