Pretty much every car I’ve seen in the last couple of years that really caught my eye ended up being from South Korea.

If Europe and NA wouldn’t sanction China, they would surprise us with marvelous and affordable quality cars. But Germany and USA doesn’t like that.

China’s sanctions on European and American (well, all foreign cars other than Tesla, for certain reasons) cars are significantly worse lol.

Their goal is not to compete fairly, but to kill off competition worldwide so they’d be the only choice. Why should everyone else oblige?

This car is a perfect example. It’s not sold or manufactured by Hyundai Motor Company the South Korean company or even a wholly owned subsidiary in China. It’s manufactured by Beijing Hyundai Motor Co., which is 50% owned by Hyundai, 50% by BAIC which also owns 51% of Beijing Benz Automotive Co. Hyundai Motor Company would not be allowed to sell this car in China.

BMW is just about the only western manufacturer to have been allowed to take majority control (75%) of their Chinese entity. The rest are 50% or less.

At the same time, they also have artificially lowered prices for EVs manufactured in China but sold globally. Great for EV buyers, absolute shit for competition.

So for things to be fair, we’d have to tell BYD, Xiaomi, et al “Hey you can sell your cars in the EU but they have to be manufactured and sold by a company owned at least 50% by EU based entities” rather than just having tariffs on cars produced in China (which they can skirt past by setting up manufacturing in Europe).
