I’d say extremists are gullible, which is why they inevitably come under the influence of authoritarians.
Any idiot can say the various extremist slogans, and the “radicalized” will be swayed and show a lot of loyalty towards anyone that does so. You talk to any extremist, whether far right or far left, they don’t actually know how anything works, have no understanding of power dynamics. They just want to support anyone that says the same simple slogans they’ve been conditioned into repeating themselves.
Extremes are political views that increase when the current system fails to convince enough people. In USA and Europe, extremes are growing because of the current failure of capitalism to provide people with lifes that match actual progress. As such capitalism is in its late stage, as was theorized, happening in front of our eyes to see.
Extreme right wants power for the fewest, the fittest for survival, the ones desserving the most.
Extreme left wants power for everyone as equal, regardless of stature and place in society.
Not to mean that extreme left is instant heaven on earth, but it can’t be said it’s authoritarian.
