The inquisition didn’t officially recognize witchcraft as real, that was mostly civilian courts.
However if you had any … ideas … about Christianity and God that didn’t follow the official church line. How do you feel about early versions of waterboarding?Wait if the church doesn’t recognize witchcraft as real, wouldn’t that make the civilian courts heretics?
Contrary to popular perception, “heretic” isn’t short for disagreeing with the church.

Bro really pinned it on the one court in Protestant Reformation Europe that didn’t execute people for witchcraft like it was candy. Fun fact about this: The safest places on Europe to be from witchcraft persecution, aside from Orthodox areas where that nonsense never caught on, was Spain and Portugal. This is specifically because in those places the inquisition ran all witchcraft trials and did so with something resembling professional rigor. They also preferred encouraging repentance—the traditional sentence for witchcraft and heresy—over execution. All in all, while there’s plenty of reason to shit on Catholic inquisitions, this ain’t it.
