The Trump administration's negligence and cuts to screwworm monitoring programs have led to a dangerous outbreak affecting the US cattle industry. Despite attempts to blame Biden, it's clear that Trump's policies are to blame. How will this crisis impact the already struggling cattle producers? #SaveOurCattle #BlameTrumpNotBiden
one could argue that the ‘screwworm’ has been alive and well inside the u.s. for going on 80 years, spotted in various places over the last decade, including washington d.c. and south florida’s atlantic coast.
In those times were the government actively defunding the program and many many others whilst doing blatant corruption such as awarding themselves millions of dollars by leveraging courts? All whilst screaming “rigged elections”?
If not, then why the fuck you stepping in for Trump. You know, just let the bad news for him be bad news. You don’t gotta stand up and be like “Don’t worry MAGA dumbies and people who worry a lot - this happens all the time. What Trump is doing here has happened before and we pulled through” - which is the effect of your comment, whether intended or not.
So now some conservative news junkie monitoring Lemmy will go to r/conservative having written an article “top ten times screw worm made it this far” and no one will care about the issue or why it’s happening THIS TIME. You don’t devil’s advocate when it’s normalizing a bad faith actor. Save it for people who deserve it.
Yikes… I said ‘I think.’ I was just guessing about the original comment, not writing a thesis. It was just a poor joke from the OP and there is no need to get so pressed over it.
Both of these cases happened abroad and travelled to the US, where it was identified and treated. The cases happening in Texas are actually spreading locally. There’s a huge difference between these situations
I didn’t raise these examples nor do I have any desire to discuss them. I’m responding to a claim another user was citing them as “dis about the GOP” or reference points indicating the GOP… Rather than real world screwworm encounters events.
For this purpose it doesn’t matter where they’re from or what people think of the, and as stated, I didn’t choose or raise them. I’m merely saying they’re actual events, and not references to the GOP.
I swear, people online never seem to be able to follow the threads of an arguments or whose saying what.
The original commenter was calling trump a screwworm. It didn’t land and was poor delivery, but you seem to have missed the point.
Also, a basic understanding of epidemiology is enough to know the difference between cases contracted while traveling and cases spreading locally. Especially when the contracted cases were handled properly.
not it was eliminated for decades in NA, until 22-23 when they closed the program it came roaring back due to south america being its stronghold. just like the yellow fever, and anopholes mosquito(malaria)

I think the comment was trying to be a dis about the GOP being the screwworms.
The “joke” is about Trump. Not the GOP.
If you’re going to explain something then fucking explain it, rather than introducing more confusion.

If that’s the case they need to go back to school and take a few writing courses.
and one raging lunatic in particular.
Maryland case - Maryland Confirms 1st Human Case of Flesh-Eating Screwworm in US.
More recent Florida case - One case of New World Screwworm in Florida detected last week
Both of these cases happened abroad and travelled to the US, where it was identified and treated. The cases happening in Texas are actually spreading locally. There’s a huge difference between these situations

Yes, Trump fits the joke, but that’s not “the GOP”, which was the explanation given by the second commenter.
The GOP have sworn fealty to trump, ipso facto, they’re the same picture
Oh, honey…
Then the person I replied to should have said it was a dis about Trump, not “a dis about the GOP”.
I was responding to the person thinking they were clearing things up, when they were adding confusion.
Sick burn
