Mughal emperor Akbar was later said to have children raised by mute wetnurses. Akbar held that speech arose from hearing; thus children raised without hearing human speech would become mute.[9] The building became known as the “dumb house.” When Akbar visited the place in 1582, four years after the children were first interred, he heard “no cry… nor any speech… no talisman of speech, and nothing came out except the noise of the dumb.”[10]
Akbar’s study is most likely authentic, but offers an ambiguous outcome.[11]
Case studies of children who somehow survived isolated from language have repeatedly corroborated the result. Language, meaning any modality of interpersonal communication that requires formation of semantic constructs in the brain, is fundamental to cognitive development.
And by fundamental we mean it very nearly is cognitive development. Depriving any child of it deliberately is a tremendous cruelty, based on what we know so far.
Sounds like a similar experiment run by Frederick II where he had children raised without being talked to and the lack of interaction killed them.
Great success
Meanwhile, in modern times, we see the outcome of cutting funding to education is a desire for a King to tell you what to do.
