I’m going to be cautiously optimistic. I really want a Gothic remake. The story and setting are unique but the originally hasn’t aged that well.

But I don’t know enough about the remake to be super excited, so I’ll do the sensible wait for the reviews thing.

I have only played Gothic 2, so it’s time to revisit the games at some point. I heard there is a full-game-sized mod as well.

I didn’t get to play the original and is not clear to me what the game is about from watching the trailer. What should I expect? An RPG,a survival game? Is it story based, or maybe more of a sandbox open world style?

Back when the original released it was a great RPG with a great story and a world that felt alive, compared to most other RPG that were on the market. The world was open to explore from the begining without any safeguards to run into strong monsters, which helped the emersion a lot. The controls were strange, but worked somehow, when you got used to it. Combat was challenging and the leveling was rewarding, because you got notably stronger. I hope the remake is good and translates these strength into the modern age.

Played the intro/demo thing they had up a while ago. The world and stuff seemed promising. The combat was slightly better but still quite similar to the original game. Which imo is not that good of a thing. I’m still gonna play it, cause I love the game, but still… was hoping for a bigger improvement in what I consider to be the side of the game that most needed jt.
