Summary

Greenland’s prime minister, Múte B Egede, condemned the planned visit by Usha Vance, Mike Waltz, and US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, calling it “foreign interference” and urging international support against American pressure.

The visit, seen as a charm offensive amid ongoing coalition talks, sparked local outrage, with Jens-Frederik Nielsen, leader of Greenland’s Democrats, criticizing the US for disrespecting Greenland’s sovereignty.

Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized cooperation with the US based on respect for sovereignty.

Extra Danish police have been deployed to Greenland ahead of the visit.

This is being called hybrid warfare in Denmark. Similar to what Russia did in Ukraine before the annexation of Crimea.

Stg Republicans have zero concept of how repulsive they are to other countries (as well as most of the US). No one invited these assholes, no one wants them, they just show up and everyone’s gotta be pretend they’re welcome. I can’t think too much about this it’s making me sick

I don’t think that they will feel welcomed in Greenland any time soon. I trust that their visit will be unpleasant. That said, saying that they are repulsive to most of the US, is not going to cut it. Having elected this administration, has its consequences, and you can’t just say “oh we hate him too”… This is not how democracy works. The Trump administration is the US for now, and to change this, you have to wait until the next election.

I didn’t say ‘we hate him too’ I said most of the US. You’re taking my 70%-ish number and acting like I said 100%. We ain’t talking about democracy here

This is how democracy works though. The USA has elected Trump and his administration so if your 70% is true, then the result should have been different.

For now, these are the consequences of the choices that the majority of the USA ellected

They are well aware of how we feel about them. They just don’t care.

Everything the American government does at the moment is with full intent. its calculated and the sooner we stop thinking of them as stupid and incompetent the better.

The presence of Usha Vance, whose family has relatively recent experience with colonialism, is particularly gross to me.

Oh, they’re coming for a visit again?

    Hmm…

How about everyone starts throwing eggs at them in Greenland. That would be diabolical. :D

As long as they have no official meetings with official representatives of Greenland, this actually counts as a private trip, and they have to pay for it. That’s why they were desperate to meet officials.

They are covering it up as being tourists, because Greenland does not want them there. The US has had free access to build military bases there since 1952 though, so they can’t even forbid them access to their own bases. A new requirement that is being considered at this point is to require USA to be part of NATO to keep running the bases there

NATO membership and that they will enforce paragraph 5 if it is needed. This is what talks there are atm.

But i don’t know if it is even possible to require thism they have had free access to build military bases there ever since the cold war and did not even have to tell Greenland or Denmark what they were up to. Same rules still should apply so I don’t see why they now want ownership (maybe besides greed and vanity)

I’ve been picturing that call of duty level with the white house lately. Back then I thought yeah this’ll never happen in America. And now with this fat orange demented child rapist back in power, I don’t know anymore. It’s not out of the question

Mike Waltz is the US National Security Advisor and former Republican Representative from Florida.

You’re probably thinking of Tim Walz, the Democratic governor of Minnesota and former VP candidate.
