7·3 days agoGiving facts is bootlicking? There is workers protection in China, there is social security, there is social healthcare and there are laws that protect your privacy. Just because it doesn’t fit your worldview, doesn’t mean I’m a bot, or CCP clown or bootlicker. I thought people on lemmy are better educated.

Technology@lemmy.world•Chinese Courts Rule Companies Cannot Fire Workers Simply to Replace Them With AIEnglish
51·3 days agoPeople always shit on China, not realizing workers have good protection in general. Besides that unlike the US, China has a strong privacy protection law similar to the European GDPR. You’ll never hear about this, because that goes against what western propaganda would like you to believe.

Edit : exactly what I was expecting. Commenting ongoing negativity about China. Not talk about illegal wars started by the US, bombing children, the US genocide against the native Americans, slavery. No always the same rinse and repeat. I get it China bad. Like North Korea but worse except for all the advances in technology, infrastructure and medicine.

35·5 days agoThe US can do whatever they want in their country but leave the rest of us alone. We’re actually doing much better without you. It would be even better if you stopped interfering ie start an illegal war, in the name of Israel. Than we can all move on without the US.

3·5 days agoNo green energy. No windmills because they kill birds, no solar because of there is no sun, no power. Just beautiful coal and illegally obtained oil. And don’t get me started on the department of health and RFK Jr. The US is going backwards in such a rapid pace, almost gives me whiplash.

3·5 days agoSo the US will be very limited in their options for EV’s in the future. The bastion of freedom and choice is strangled by monopolies. It becomes more realistic every day that this will the Chinese century and the fall of faux Christian empire (at least that how they see themselves).

1·7 days agoThan why don’t they buy foreign EV’s? There were options but now both Hyundai and Kia have stopped selling EV models last year solely in the US. In my opinion that makes the choice for BYD logical as these US established brands can’t even sell their EV’s.

Technology@lemmy.world•China car giant BYD says it can thrive without USEnglish
17·7 days agoMost Americans would not buy a Chinese car anyway.
I love that Americans pretend to be the most important and competitive market. The combined population of Europe is twice that of the US. South East Asia is 700 million. And the choices in EV’s is triple that off the US.
These are the markets Chinese manufacturers are after. These markets accept Chinese cars based on the price, quality and innovation.

21·7 days agoSuch BS about privacy payoff. Do you know what your banks and venmo know about you? Your chip in your phone or credit card, allows companies to target ads in real time. That’s the reality in the US but conveniently ignored because China has to be bastion of privacy violation. In reality China has privacy laws comparable to the European GDPR.
AliPay and wechat are fenomal. It’s like in the western world, 1000 apps rolled into one. Paying, ordering food, ordering DiDi, trains, flights, insurance, sports, tickets all in the one app. Plus you can add mini apps within so when you go to a restaurant you can scan the QR code or just put your phone on the NFC tag, and the menu pops up so you can order and pay directly.
China is much better in regards to infrastructure like high speed trains, social security, health care, green energy but again because of the western propaganda this is ignored. Are there tradeoffs? Yes of course.
But from someone who lived and worked in the US for 2 years and now lives in China for over 7 years, I can 100% claim my life is much better here than in the US. And definitely much, much more affordable which is what the article is about.

BioNTech is definitely not defunded in China. Besides BioNTech, there are more local pharmas working on mRNA. BioNTech have a license / working agreement with BMS worth 2 billion dollars mainly for a mRNA cancer vaccine. Mostly handled in China - again. Because in the US as a scientist you’ll be defunded if you use the word mRNA in your documentation.
It is generally fucking nuts to block what could be one of the major cancer treatments of the near future.

What the fuck are you talking about? Buick is anything but a status symbol. I lived here for 7 years now and can’t remember the last time I have seen one. They have a joint venture with SAIC, a state owned car company and the cars are often rebranded. Mostly German brands were seen as status symbols but that’s no longer the case either due to arrogance and lack of innovation. Except maybe audi who have some Chinese only EV’s. Now local high end cars, especially EV’s are trending. Nio, Xiaomi, Li, Xpeng, Maextro to name a few. You barely see any American car brand here.
Oh and I’m a car nut so I know what I’m talking about
