I came into this comment section expecting this modest proposal to be widely recognized for what it was. to my surprise, your reply was far down the page

agreed. no embellishment, just design that makes the functionality obvious.
I don’t think the main benefit is cutting off cheaters - it is about using the road more effectively. If you have 2 miles of a single lane full of cars next to an empty lane (that is blocked at the constriction), the congestion is more likely to block intersections, ramps, etc. Studies show that having 2 lanes full of cars with a zipper merge at the point constriction is the most efficient:

11·14 days agoBut if you’re heavily invested in the
stockbubble market, your net worth has never been higher. the economy is only bad for the bottom half. that’s why trump is still in power - the well-to-do aren’t hurting and the elites are getting everything they ever wanted.

News@lemmy.world•Jeff Bezos Praises Trump’s Second Term as ‘More Mature’
0·22 days agoEither he has no understanding of the word ‘mature’ or he’s lying.
I believe he likes Trump, but I am sure his motivation is self-interest and has nothing to do with what’s ‘good’ for the US.

Technology@lemmy.world•'I think those people are dead wrong': Jeff Bezos slams AI naysayers, plays down job fears for young workers, and defends billionaires and TrumpEnglish
8·22 days agoI agree with your sentiment but I like these posts for a strategic reason: Bezos intends for his statements to bolster support, but his strategy is falling flat. Support for AI is either level or declining, and anger over its harm is growing. Bezos reveals the extent to which he is out-of-touch. I think his statements actually inflame opposition to AI: his propaganda is motivating his opponents while leaving his supporters indifferent. When I upvote Bezos quotes, I am thinking to myself, ‘hey everybody, get a load of this asshole!’ I am definitely not upvoting him because I think his claims have merit or that they will convert people to support AI.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump’s Endgame Is Surrender. He seems to hope to slip away without Americans noticing the magnitude of this defeat.
14·22 days agoEven in my country (Canada), the news media keeps reporting on Trump as though he were a normal leader. He is not. He is a career criminal - a scammer who is robbing the US blind. Even worse: he doesn’t need to scam any more. At his disposal is the world’s largest military and nuclear arsenal. He is now attacking and robbing other countries. Next up: Cuba. He will keep on robbing and killing until somebody stops him because his greed is bigger than the Earth. Killing Trump would be a moral act.

News@lemmy.world•[Bloomberg] War Has Caused Lasting Damage to the Dollar System
3·2 months agoI feel the same way about the war as you do, as far as i can tell. It is a moral outrage that the rich and powerful can kill and destroy with impunity.
Because of my work, the article is interesting to me, but it adds nothing to my opposition to economic coercion and illegal wars. i am not persuaded by it because i care more about the human aspect than the economic side.
if the article were to persuade someone else to join us in opposition to the conflicts you mentioned, though, i would say it was a good article for that reason alone.
we need a coalition of people with different priorities who are opposed to the wars, simply because that is the best chance of ending them.
