Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are you experiencing any shortages where you live?
30·7 days agoNot a shortage, per se, but apparently cocoa products are getting more expensive due to a poor growing season or disease or some other thing heralding the end of days.
Wife sent me this the other day. It is about double what it usually is.

Check out the Amazon price rising (not an Amazon link):

50 lbs on average. Just find one the right size and weight like picking out a bat before stepping up to the plate.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Would you ever call your son a disappointment?
4·20 days agoI once explored the hypothetical of what would make me abandon the love for one of my kids. I went with something awful: imagine we found out they were a gruesome serial killer in secret. I decided after pondering it that I would continue to love and support them even through that. No one else would, rightfully so. But I think it is my duty even when the rest of humanity has abandoned them.
Writing this I thought of a variation. Instead of a serial killer, what if they murdered my spouse or one of their siblings. I’ll have to ponder that. I’d like to think I’d have the same unconditional love but I’m really not sure. In that case I might have to admit that I’m disappointed in them.
Your solution favors the wealthy who have the means to escape. The poor will be the ones to suffer and the elite will continue to peddle their elitism elsewhere.
As an alternative to your plan, we could give the week’s notice and, when all the elite have escaped, nuke everything but the holy land. Problem solved. “The meek shall inherit the earth” and all that.
I’ll receive similar messages but without the “we should do this”. Later when I haven’t responded I’ll get the “Why don’t you reply to what I sent you?”
We now have a rule that if you want a reply you have to ask a question. Felt kinda dickish but having that agreement up front has been helpful.
Started watching YouTube with my SO but unlike OP found content we could both enjoy.
It ruined my recommendations and I’m ok with that.
Fun story… We were watching something together and I dozed off holding the remote. Woke up 10 minutes later and YT had auto played some car restoration video. “Sorry, I must’ve been tired. I’ll find something else.” “DON’T YOU DARE. I’m invested now. I have to see if they’re gonna get this thing to start!”
My penguin.
Yep, yep, yep. Yep. Yepyepyepyep. Uh huh.

Technology@lemmy.world•After outages, Amazon to make senior engineers sign off on AI-assisted changesEnglish
1·25 days agoThis 1000x. You think that senior dev got to that level hoping one day all they’d have to do is evaluate randomly generated code? No! They want to create, build, design, integrate, share. Cut out the middle, useless step and get back to the work these professionals have dedicated their careers to.

1·25 days agoHow in the glorious fuck was this not a thing from the start? In a system this big and this critical all code should be reviewed by cognizant individuals. Anyone who thought an LLM would be perfect and not need code reviews has their heads so far up their asses they can see through their pee hole.

Political Memes@lemmy.world•Gun manufacturers are having a great year.
6·25 days agoTraditional gun enthusiasts have “their scenario”. That is, the thing they think they will need their cache of ARs and survival gear and 10k rounds. SHTF, end of the world as we know it, meth addled home intruder, zombie apocalypse, whatever.
I think folks on the left never had “their scenario” and correctly assessed the odds of those scenarios happening was low. So, logically, no need to arm themselves.
Those odds have changed and we’ve been watching those scenarios play out live on social media. Leftists have taken notice and are adjusting their relationship with firearms appropriately.
