I had to put all my stuff in storage then move across the country recently. I did not bring my cuckoo rice cooker with me, and damn I didn’t realize how spoilled I’ve gotten. The rice I’m cooking in a cheap one just isn’t as good. I think it is over-cooking the rice, but it’s actually hard to dial in

11·10 days agoI am not for the death penalty in any capacity. However, this woman kept trying to murder people while in prison, although in far less horrific and dramatic ways than she murdered Colleen. I imagine the isolation she experienced on death row had an effect on the murder attempt? She needed to be in a psychiatric hospital
(I thought I had read elsewhere that she had two murder attempts on fellow inmates, one involving a romantic partner, but Wikipedia only has one attempt so I’ll leave it at that)

4·10 days agoI’m reading more of your comments in your thread, and I really hope your doctor can help you out. Treatment for this can range from having a feeding port installed to therapy. My family member needed both a port and therapy, but is thriving now.
I also do really understand the texture thing, I have both AuDHD and a sensory processing disorder. If I’m severely stressed about anything, I end up living off safe soft food for a few weeks until my stressor has resolved. Because some textures feel less like food that will nourish me, and more like random objects that might cause me health issues if I try to digest them. That rubbery canned meat texture, especially if it’s accompanied by a layer of fat at the top of the can… 🤢 Yeah I totally understand that :/
This is the best type of horny posting

7·10 days agoHave you heard of ARFID? A close family member, as well as my close friend’s autistic child have this disorder. Low appetite and the visceral reactions to various food items are common with this disorder

The one that breaks my heart is the Christian counseling services, which are so often not true therapy. There are absolutely licensed therapists out there who are Christian and can advertise that. Just hate watching people who have serious mental health problems go to counseling and hating themselves because prayer isn’t usually enough to help.
I’m a firm believer that if there is a God, he provided the tools and people to help his flock deal with modern problems. But people often turn away from using these tools or services :(
I just went through 4 years of university as an elder millenial, the youngins still feel this way and I honestly thought it was a Gen Z thing. I’d never encountered the punctuation issue before I decided to go to school again
There’s a Fundamental Christian influencer named Aria Lewis who has that “insurance”. She’s been dealing with dental problems and basically made a post one day asking her followers if that insurance was a scam because she wasn’t able to get the care she really needed
It’s crazy what problems people fall into when they choose something has “Christian” in the name over what everyone else is using
Omg. I walk on the balls of my feet, those socks would be perfect
My brain operates only on “are they a threat”, and within that is “are they a friend”. I can name only a handful of people I find attractive if I’m pressed, but it’s always on a “this human is art” level.
I’m aroace, though, which likely is why I don’t evaluate people for hotness
My cardboard box collection has saved me countless dollars over all the moves I have made as an adult. I average a move every 1.6 years

News@lemmy.world•The Increasingly Long Drive to Give Birth in Rural AmericaEnglish
7·18 days agoThis happens even in states that have enshrined abortion in their constitution, like Montana. Where I lived in Montana we had to drive 2.5 hours one way for the nearest maternity center. It may absolutely be the case that abortion bans are causing these maternity centers to close in many areas, but where I lived it was happening because the rising costs of Healthcare, and the costs to entice doctors to “the frontier”, were too high for keeping the local (and quite poor) population safe and healthy
https://caselaw.findlaw.com/court/mt-supreme-court/1489482.html
This is the law that protected access to abortion
A lot of homeless people can’t work. But, for those who can, it’s hard to find a job when you haven’t been able to shower for a week, have no money to purchase nice clothing for interviews (let alone no where to keep these nice clothes), and don’t have an address which is often needed to secure either a job or benefits.
I have been homeless this year, and was lucky enough to get into a housing program. But my finances are still fucked, and I can’t work because of serious mental and physical disabilities. It’s a trap that is so difficult to get out of, and I’m very worried that I’ll be homeless again in a few years.
Imagine the toll this takes on a person, then add that this population is hated, derided, and repeatedly victimized by both the general population and the government/police. Imagine struggling with mental issues, and having all that you’ve managed to collect stolen from you every other week. Imagine having physical disabilities and being unable to run away from assaults. Imagine all of the above with the additional burdens of being a woman, a POC, and/or LGBTQ+.
Now think about how rough the job market is for people who have stable housing, and who meet the qualifications of a job, and for those who wouldn’t be a “DEI” hire in the age of “anti-woke”.
Empathy isn’t a weakness, it literally only means that you understand someone else’s plot in life. Being able to understand situations like or unlike your own is a strength, and it’s necessary to promote societal change. And that is exactly why conservatives hate it

I had a first date where the guy thought it would be a great idea to take me to a park and serenade me while strumming his ukelele. I am certain that floats other people’s boats, but I am not the type of human that ever wants that kind of intense one-sided attention, especially in public. I gave him a second date because I felt horrible about how awkward I was about the whole thing, but the second date made it clear he just wanted a woman to marry quickly and have children. Which is also not a thing I’m into haha.
I screen people a lot more carefully now, so both sides don’t end up terribly disappointed
