Garden style can work really well when for creativity, but there’s part of my brain that remembers winds of winter probably isn’t ever coming out, and I feel sad.

Funnily enough I miss the internet. You can kind get the same experience in the right places, but it’s not quite the same vibe.

4·2 days agoEssentially it’s a controller designed to get a decent to excellent result playing anything on steam, part of that is you need a mouse and keyboard. I’ve used the ones on my steam deck a bunch, and they’re pretty good at most anything.
God that sucks, good luck with your sleep cycle brother

Out of curiosity did your parents enforce bedtime? Mine did and it kinda worked, but in retrospect might have set me up to normalise activities in bed

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Should I tell my dad that his mistake almost cost me a fortune?
7·8 days agoI guess the question is what do you gain by telling him? Was it a mistake that could be learned from, or is it just shit happens sometimes? Even if it’s a learnable moment, is it worth potentially destroying a man’s confidence in his trade for little to no benefit?
I don’t know the minutia of the situation, so I can’t really recommend with clarity. I’d be leaning towards not telling him.
You’ve somehow created a new phobia and solved it in the same paragraph. Good job!
You know I miss Vista a bit. It wasn’t perfect, but it was pretty decent, was a slightly undercooked version of 7. I’d happily take it’s ux over 11 any day.
How dare you shit talk Pangea like that

10·22 days agoSort of, I’d argue it’s better accomplished. I don’t hate venom, he’s basically the same character. In mgs2 people signed up for more solid snake, which was even blatantly communicated as what you were getting in the demo of the game and all marketing materials. It’s a question of expectation. Even aside from the character, the tanker chapter is leagues in quality above the rest of the game.
It’s not the I hate mgs2, I think it’s actually really neat and interesting, but when you’re doing a rug pull off that nature it’s easy for people to be disappointed.

32·22 days agoCool. We did this in Australia, 75% of kids circumvented it. It’s a waste of time.
Unless you’re doing it for the facial data, which you probably are.
This probably has been said but I want to chip in regardless.
People like this do not usually have a concrete goal, rather they are the ones who are acting in a shitty way just enough so the system rewards it, not enough to punish it. They have a fuzzy compulsion to seek more at any cost, when the current existence becomes slightly mundane they go for the next taboo thrill, the next bribe. They don’t have a stable existence and must consume forever, like a cancer.
Before we had the recent shift towards purposeful retraining of our own behaviours in popular culture, a lot of our parents were just working exclusively with what they were given, it’s how they were trained to behave.
It’s tragic really. My own dad was mildly absent because his dad left when he was maybe 3. My mum beat my sister and I because that’s what her parents did to her.
It doesn’t make it better, it doesn’t excuse it. For my part, it makes me realise how this stuff happens, and why it’s so important to examine your learned behaviours, and try your very hardest not to be those awful things that were forced on you.
Sleep is my favourite function to complain about, it breaks shit at random on windows and Linux, nobody seems to know why or how. The fact that sleep works as well as it does on consoles and steam deck is a miracle to me.
Can I get a goth gf that fixes my mental health? I know I’m asking for an exception here, but it’s been a really shit year and I could use a win.

That’s pretty much it, instead of having everything planned out ahead of time you just kind of let it flow, growing like a garden. It helps because sometimes preplanning can be a bit restrictive, you tend to get more varied responses by garden style instead.
Winds of winter is the next book in the “a song of ice and Fire” series. It’s been well over a decade since the last book. The fan consensus is that, amongst other reasons, he hasn’t finished it because in the last few books he let the story grow wildly out of scope, and is having huge difficulties resolving everything in a satisfying matter. Hence my caution on the style.
