I hope people will understand that two dude breaking chairs on each other’s back while doing ballet is slightly different than senile clowns pushing half the population of a country into a grinder.

But AEW and WWE are entertaining…there’s nothing really entertaining in current politics or media.

“Entertaining” doesn’t apply exclusively to pleasant things. Politics and media are extremely entertaining right now. They used to be very boring.

But there is! Infotainment. It’s way more engaging than regular news or just dramas. It’s just not the good touch.

Except I can’t be deported when shit goes sideways in wrestling. Politics affects you even if you don’t care or try to ignore it. Not so much with wrestling.

Oh, I remember those times. People did NOT keep watching, as I recall it.

Most felt betrayed and stupid and would never talk about it again.

Did Americans actually think they were for real? I feel like folks everywhere else understood it but evidently enjoyed the entertaining acrobatics! I guess voting for a rich reality TV star charlatan was definitely in the cards for the US, lol, they can’t tell reality from fiction anyway!

I 100% believed it was real. But then i turned 10 or so and me and my friends were wondering how this real man called the undertaker just got resurrected

I understood it was a show but somehow finding out Kane and the Undertaker aren’t brothers (and this happened recently too, lol) kinda fucked me up. 🤷😅

It was pretty obviously an act as early as 1987 when the iron sheik and hacksaw got pulled over in the same car and arrested for dwi/possession. Fans weren’t so much angry about the substance abuse as they were the bitter rivals partying together off the clock.

That was the same timeframe where ol Vincent was testifying in front of Congress that wrestling was completely fake and didn’t need to be regulated like an actual sport, no need for drug testing or safety equipment because it’s all fake right?

And the Congress critters are it all up. Never acknowledging that while the ending is predetermined, the path to get there is still incredibly physically demanding and a mistake could result in actual injury or death.

if you ever take a glance at the IWC on twitter (Internet Wrestling Community - yes I do watch pro wrestling) you’ll find that most still think it’s real.

When will the “erm, don’t you know wrestling is fake” people get it through their damn heads that it’s not fake it’s fictional! You don’t go up to someone watching a TV drama and start lecturing them about how it’s not real, do you???

I think it’s either Americans who feel angry and betrayed because they actually thought Rey Mysterio was getting choked by Kane, and the other group of Americans who, because they had more than two working brain cells, understood it was just TV but is still annoyed by the first group’s antics.

It’s the same as watching a news source that for years swears to you that something is true and then quietly comes back and tells you that in fact it was not true. There is a long list of mainstream media “sorry we were only joking” incidents over the years. Yet people continue to watch never questioning whether or not they are being lied to .

When people talk in ‘all-star-wrestling’ terminology, I stop listening. politics/news same.
